Sweetshop has signed director and photographer Stella Asia Consonni for representation in Europe
Director and Photographer Stella Asia Consonni has signed for representation in Europe.
Originally from a small town in Northern Italy, Stella first picked up a camera aged fourteen as an excuse to skip Ancient Greek class and take pictures of her restless friends and their journey into finding their adult selves. At 16 she held her first solo exhibition.
After researching the best photography courses in the world, Stella packed up her camera and moved to London to study photography at University of the Arts. She couldn’t speak a word of English, didn’t have any family or friends in the UK and worked several jobs to be able to afford the city and her studies. There she found a new community, a new home, and discovered her passion for directing.
Stella’s work is driven by her bravery, curiosity and empathy. It is honest and striking, representing raw humanity in all its tumultuous and delicate aspects. It has been shortlisted and top 10 at Berlin Commercial 2021 and shortlisted at Berlin Fashion Film Festival 2021, 1.4 Festival 2020 and Milano Fashion Film Festival 2020 & 2019. In April 2019, Stella showcased her ‘Love Me’ project as solo exhibition at Protein Studios, London. The same project will be part of a group exhibition in Seoul, Korea, in April 2022. Her photography was shortlisted at the Palm Photo Prize and showcased in the prize group exhibition at East Photographic Gallery, London, in 2021.
Stella has directed and photographed for the likes of i-D, Dazed & Confused, Vogue Italia, British Vogue and Nowness, along with campaigns for Gucci, Burberry, Prada, Armani, Nike, Adidas, Tiffany, Sony Music, Atlantic Records, Google, Manolo Blahnik, Ermenegildo Zegna, All Saints, Just Cavalli and Clinique.
Morgan Whitlock, Executive Producer at Sweetshop said, “You cannot fake authenticity. You cannot cheat craft. Stella has created a body of work that is incredibly refined, while remaining raw and powerful. She is a brilliant example of a generation of directors who have grown up without any technical barriers to their creativity and have been unencumbered in developing their craft and exploring their medium. We cannot wait to work together and bring her unique voice to commercial projects.”
Stella added, “It’s great to be with one of the top companies in the world that not only produces remarkable commercials, but it’s also made up of great people committed to diversity, equality and sustainability.”
Wilf Sweetland, Global CEO at Sweetshop said, “It is rare to see work that pierces you, while at the same time forces you to embrace humanity. Stella’s eye is amazing, and we are so looking forward to furthering her nuance for the human spirit in the world of commercials.”
